Located halfway between Spencer and Freedom, Indiana, Hill House Arts Retreat is an updated 250 year-old home on 59 hilltop acres, now available for month-long or longer residencies.
Hill House is designed to serve the retreat needs of one to five adults in three upstairs bedrooms.
Guests may use the fully equipped kitchen and the first floor washer and dryer before and after the downstairs gallery's hours of operation (10-4, M-F). Supplies such as coffee filters, bath soap, dishwasher detergent, and laundry detergent are provided.
Besides personal effects, guests will need full or twin bedsheets, pillow cases, towels, and groceries; for your (traveling) convenience, beds are dressed in fresh mattress pads, pillows are provided and encased in fresh protective cases, and clean blankets are supplied.
Cleaning services are available on request through a bonded, insured local contractor; household cleaning supplies are onsite, as well, depending on individual guests' preferences.
Hill House was framed around its original 250 year-old log pioneer cabin in the 1930s, and stands on a hilltop inside its refuge acres. It was completely renovated and opened as an arts retreat in 2002. Surrounding meadows and woods are cut by paths to a scenic pond, dry-wash streams, and rock waterfalls.
The gravel driveway, off a major highway, is graded and accessible. Local attractions include nearby McCormick’sCreek State Park, and Indiana University, in Bloomington, is 22 miles away.
Lease agreement is available upon request.
